Aside from your house, your car is likely one of the biggest investments you’ve made. Even if you don’t drive a high-end luxury vehicle, you have still put in a significant amount of money, and you depend on your car regularly. That’s why it’s important to take steps to make sure your car is safe from car theft. Today on the blog, A1 Lock and Key LLC is discussing ways to ensure your car is properly secured.

1. Consider Car Security Devices

There are several car security devices and gadgets on the market that can grant your car extra protection against thieves. Installing a vehicle tracking system can come in handy if your car is stolen, or if you simply forgot where you parked it. A GPS transponder is used along with a smartphone app to help you easily locate your car. We also recommend a car alarm to deter thieves. Most thieves are looking to steal without being noticed, so a loud alarm is a sure-fire way to scare them off.

2. Watch Where You Park

As we mentioned above, car thieves are looking to get the job done without being noticed. Therefore, they're most likely to target cars parked out of the way and hidden from view, in poorly-lit areas, or in known areas of high crime. Keep your car safe by avoiding these types of parking situations and instead, park in well-lit, busy parking lots with plenty of people around. You may have to walk further to your destination occasionally, but it will be worth it to ensure the safety of your vehicle.

3. Keep Track of Your Keys

Because car thieves are looking for the easiest way into your car, they often steal car keys first. Therefore, it is very important to take steps to make sure your keys are always safely in your possession. If you're prone to losing your keys, start by changing a few of your habits. Make sure you always leave your keys in a safe place, when you're out and about, keep them out of sight in a purse or pocket, and never leave your keys in your car. If you do happen to lose your keys, make sure to contact a locksmith right away to have your locks changed. Even if you still have a spare key, you don't want to risk someone else finding your lost key and using it to steal your car.
